SUMMARY - Low back pain can affect up to about 80% of the world’s population, limiting their daily activities with a lack of productivity and emotional reactions that my exacerbate their associated suffering. Disk herniation is the rupture of the intervertebral disk, where the nucleus pulposus may protrude through the annulus fibrosus or become extruded to lie as a free fragment in the vertebral canal. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of ozone therapy in patients with herniated disk comparing three routes of ozone administration: intradiscal, peridural and paravertebral combined with ozone applied rectally. All variants of treatment were effective for these patients and no hospital admission was needed. The results demonstrated that ozone therapy in patients with disk herniation produced between 85-95% and 60-80% of clinical and radiological improvements, respectively. No side-effects were observed during the study.
